Dr. Vassilopoulos obtained his certificate in Periodontology, Master of Science in Oral Biology (MSc, 2001) and Doctor of Dentistry Degree (Dr Dent, 2008) from the Dental School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece (NKUoA). He served as a postdoctoral attendant and teaching assistant at Tufts University, Boston, Massachusetts USA (2009- 2010).
He currently serves as a tenured Assist. Professor, Dept. Periodontics, NKUoA. He is the clinical coordinator and Chief supervisor at the Postgraduate Periodontal clinic (EFP accredited program) and at the Center of Osseointegrated Dental Implants. He also maintains a private practice limited in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry in Athens. He is the President elect of the Hellenic Society of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry (HSP, 2027-2030). Furthermore, he is an active member of many national and international societies (IADR, AAP, HSOP etc.) and he is an ITI fellow and registered speaker.
He has published more than 45 papers and chapters in scientific journals and books, and he lectures nationally and internationally as an invited speaker with main topics in periodontal plastic surgery and implantology.
He also served as a member of the Organizing committee at EuroPerio9- Amsterdam 2018 (chairman of the Ambassadors Committee), Europerio10- Copenhagen 2022 and Europerio11- Vienna 2025.
He stands as a voting member at the core- Executive Committee of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and he is also the Chair of EFP’s Communication Committee. Dr. Vassilopoulos will be the President of the EFP until 3.2026.
